A Barter auction can be used if the auctioneer is willing to consider options other than a straight exchange of cash for the item being auctioned. This allows bidders to offer anything in exchange for an auction item. The auctioneer normally provides an enumeration of goods deemed acceptable for exchange. The winning bid is not determined automatically, and is instead selected by the auctioneer. The auctioneer can elect not to pick any of the submitted bids.
